Imagine a town craving authentic Italian flavors, only to be met with silence—until now. Great Falls finally has its answer with the arrival of Pomodoro Italian Cuisine, a restaurant that promises to bring the heart of Italy to Montana. After months of eager anticipation, the doors at 1008 20th Street South have swung open, and as KRTV's culinary expert, I couldn’t resist diving in to see if it lives up to the hype. But here's where it gets intriguing: this isn’t just another restaurant opening—it’s a passion project rooted in family legacy and a bold vision for the community.
At the helm is restaurant partner Karolina LeBlanc, whose journey to Pomodoro began at her family table. Her father, a lifelong executive chef specializing in Italian cuisine, was the spark that ignited this dream. 'Every time he visited, I thought, this town needs real Italian food,' LeBlanc shared. That simple realization grew into a mission: to create a neighborhood hub where true Italian flavors could flourish. But this is the part most people miss—Pomodoro isn’t just about food; it’s about bringing people together over dishes that feel like home.
LeBlanc and her team were determined to source the finest ingredients, a point Chef Giovanni Lipnik emphasizes: 'Real Italian cuisine demands authenticity—think genuine olive oil, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and pasta straight from Italy.' But here’s where it gets controversial: while Pomodoro imports staples like pasta and cheese, they also prioritize local ingredients to keep dishes fresh. Is this a compromise, or a clever blend of tradition and practicality? You decide.
The community’s response has been nothing short of electric. 'I’m absolutely thrilled,' LeBlanc gushed. 'We started small, unsure how Great Falls would embrace this, but the excitement has been overwhelming.' The restaurant hosted a soft opening for friends and family on November 14th, followed by a grand debut the next day. I sampled everything from carbonara to tiramisu, but one dish stole the show: the gnocchi gorgonzola. Handmade in-house, this creamy masterpiece is topped with crispy prosciutto—a fan favorite for good reason.
Pomodoro operates Tuesday through Saturday, serving lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. While primarily a take-out spot, patio dining is available when the weather cooperates. But here’s the question: can a restaurant truly capture the essence of Italy in a small Montana town? Visit Pomodoro and judge for yourself.
