Jack Doohan's Formula 1 Journey: From Dream to Demotion (2026)

A young Australian driver's Formula 1 dream has come to an abrupt end, leaving many fans and experts questioning the decision. Jack Doohan's journey from karting to F1 was a remarkable one, but it lasted only a fleeting moment.

Doohan, with a legendary racing heritage as the son of five-time motorcycle GP champion Mick Doohan, began his racing career at just 12 years old. Fast forward to 2025, and he was chosen to drive for the prestigious Alpine Formula 1 team. However, his time with the team was short-lived, with Alpine releasing him after just six races.

But here's where it gets controversial... Doohan's departure raises eyebrows, especially considering his impressive background and the team's performance struggles. Alpine finished last in the F1 constructors' standings, and the replacement driver, Franco Colapinto, didn't exactly set the track on fire either. Colapinto managed to avoid crashes but failed to score any points, with his best finish being a distant 11th place.

And this is the part most people miss... Doohan actually outperformed his teammate, Pierre Gasly, in several races. Despite not beating Gasly overall, Doohan's lap times were consistently faster, by approximately 0.17 to 0.50 seconds, in the races where neither driver retired. So, why the sudden demotion?

Alpine stated that Doohan was still an integral part of the team and would continue as a test driver and reserve. However, Doohan's ambition to race, not just test, might have played a role in his decision to leave. At 22, he has a bright future ahead, with plenty of opportunities in motor racing, even if F1 isn't an immediate option.

So, what do you think? Was Alpine's decision justified, or did they let go of a promising talent too soon? Share your thoughts in the comments; let's spark a discussion on this intriguing F1 story!
