Breaking News: Brian Kelly, the Gold Coast Titans centre once eyed by the Warrington Wolves, is set to stay in the NRL, but with a new team!
It seems the Super League's loss is the Parramatta Eels' gain, as reports from Down Under suggest Kelly is heading their way for the 2026 season.
Kelly, who was previously linked with a move to Warrington, is the cousin of Albert Kelly, a former star for Hull KR and Hull FC. Albert even lifted the Challenge Cup with the 'Airlie Birds' back in 2017 and earned a spot in the Super League Dream Team that year.
Earlier this year, Warrington was reportedly very interested in bringing the 29-year-old Kelly to the UK. However, with the Wolves signing Albert Hopoate and Josh Smith, that move never materialized. Now, it appears Kelly is open to joining Parramatta, with a deal reportedly close to being finalized.
But here's where it gets controversial...
Kelly, a Lismore native and cousin of former NRL stalwart James Roberts, has a strong rugby league pedigree, having represented both New South Wales and the Kangaroos at the youth level. He made his NRL debut with Manly in 2017 before returning to the Titans in 2019, where he's played 143 first-grade games, bringing his total to 190.
Interestingly, Kelly is still under contract with the Gold Coast until the end of 2026. However, reports indicate that the Titans are in talks with the Eels to facilitate his early release.
Parramatta has been active in the market recently, and Kelly's addition would boost their squad depth. This move comes after the departure of Zac Lomax, leaving the Eels with space in their squad and salary cap for 2026. Kelly has scored 66 NRL tries.
